I've been reading a lot of articles lately about the importance of accessories to "brand" your own personal style.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that my own sense of style is rather earthy and casual - I feel odd in a dress and high-heels scare me silly! Still, the articles have me thinking about the extra things we wear and what they say about us.
I have my favorites - mostly stones and leather, as you might guess. I also have a few special pieces, mostly worn on rare and special occasions, that have a bit of sparkle or a dash of flash.
But the reason these articles caught my attention, of course, is that I sell accessories. Bags and pendants, belts and wristbands have been the mainstay of my business for many years. Through those years I have seen some styles change and others have shown such staying power that they can only be called classics.
Leather wristbands (or cuffs, if you prefer) are just such an item. No matter the era, no matter the style - a bit of leather on the wrist has always been a part of the permanent-current way we dress. A quick study of movies through the last several decades will bear this out. From James Dean to Johnny Depp, from Bette Davis to Angelina Jolie - all of these fashion icons have set their style with wrist leather. Wide or narrow, plain or ornate, the wristband is a classic.
So the next time you're thinking of adding a bit of pizazz to your wardrobe, look no further than your wrist - and dress it up in whatever style suits you best!
